Learn Your Family’s Health History
Just about everyone knows that Thanksgiving is a time when families gather to give thanks, but did you also know that for the past decade the Surgeon General has declared it National Family History Day? Since families are usually gathered on this day, the Surgeon General encourages them to take some time to discuss and write down health problems that run in their family throughout generations. Diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and cystic fibrosis can be passed down from generation to generation. Knowing your family’s health history can help you take preventative steps toward a long, healthy life.
