Helping Patients Hear
Serving as an administrator for Audiology Services of Chattanooga, Inc. eventually led Cheryl Ward to her dream job. “I found that I had a heart for our patients and had a deep desire to become more involved in their treatment and care,” Ward says. Now, as a hearing professional, she spends her days performing audiometric testing to evaluate hearing levels, prescribing and fitting hearing devices, and counseling individuals on hearing conservation. “I like to put patients at ease by explaining what is involved with testing their hearing and then fully explaining the test to them,” Ward says. “I then answer any questions or concerns they may have.” Away from the office, Ward is always seeking ways to grow as a hearing professional – she’s a member of the International Hearing Society and Tennessee Hearing Society.
My dedication to my profession allows me to strive for an advanced level of quality hearing care."

1. What do you love most about your profession?
I love helping patients reconnect with loved ones through better hearing.
2. What is one of your happiest professional moments?
Imagine having a normal hearing ear on one side and a non-hearing ear on the other. My happiest moment is fitting that individual with a CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signals) system to eliminate one-sided hearing. When I whisper to the non-hearing side, the individual is usually overwhelmed at the transformation.
3. What is your best advice for patients?
These things come to mind: Always protect your hearing from noise exposure. Get a baseline audiogram by age 40. If you suspect a hearing loss, don’t wait years to seek advice from a hearing professional. If you experience a sudden loss of hearing, it’s important to seek immediate medical attention.
4. What is your philosophy when it comes to the care for your patients?
To treat every patient with integrity, dignity, and compassion.
5. Do you believe in miracles?
I believe technology can create miraculous improvements in both the medical and prosthetic fields.
