Beauty Products You Can Whip Up at Home
Here’s some tips for at-home beauty products.
Avocado Hair Mask
If your strands have been feeling parched, try this concoction. Mash up an avocado (half if your hair is short or thin), and add in a few drops of your favorite scented essential oil. Apply to wet hair, let it sit 15 minutes, then shampoo and rinse. All the oils and proteins in the avocado will help your hair become sleek and moisturized.
Pumpkin Body Scrub
It’s almost pumpkin pie season, and this scrub is a no-calorie way to reinvent your leftovers. Just take half a cup of pureed pumpkin and half a cup of brown sugar. Add in a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and honey, and combine. The mixture will exfoliate, and the vitamin A-rich pumpkin will soothe skin. Olive oil and honey will help to hydrate and add in antioxidants.
Herbal Hand Sanitizer
Create any scent your heart desires when you make hand sanitizer at home. Combine 2/3 cup of rubbing alcohol and 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel. Then add in 8-10 drops of essential oil – think thyme, clove, lavender, or peppermint for their antiseptic properties. Mix well and transfer into individual bottles for backpacks and purses.
Banana Foot Treatment
Bananas are known to make skin softer, so if your feet are suffering from dry, cracked areas, this treatment offers a solution. Mix half a banana with some honey drops and coat your feet in the mixture. Then wrap them in saran wrap for 10 minutes. Rinse, and voila – softer skin!
Lemon Lip Exfoliator
Colder temperatures can be especially harsh on lips, so to keep them moisturized and chap-free, mix up this exfoliator. Stir together 1 tsp. of coconut oil with 1 tsp. of honey and 2 Tbsp. of raw sugar. Then squeeze a bit of lemon juice into the mixture. The result is a paste you can scrub your dry, chapped lips with and rinse away to reveal lips that are super soft.
