Meet Our Doctors: Dr. Jordan Paynter

Erlanger Orthopaedics

MAKING AN IMPACT

Dr. Jordan Paynter pursued a surgical career after witnessing the impact his father had as a general surgeon in Dalton, Georgia. “I shadowed him several times, and I just had fun. The job you want is the one you don’t mind waking up early for,” he shares. Now, Dr. Paynter offers compassionate care to patients at Erlanger Orthopaedics. “Being able to treat people to keep them active brings me joy,” he shares. “I get to experience the joy of meeting people using walkers, canes, and wheelchairs, and then see them walk out of my office without assistance and with a smile on their face.”

It’s humbling to see how much you can affect someone’s quality of life with appropriately performed surgery, and to receive their gratitude afterward.”

Dr. Jordan Paynter

1. What sets your practice apart?

I specialize in minimally invasive total hip replacement surgery with reduced recovery time, and kinematic knee replacement, which has reported benefits of improved satisfaction and quicker recovery than traditional alignment strategies. Most notably, patients are treated as family in my practice.

2. What would you consider to be your main strengths?

My main strength is listening to patients. I find that about 90% of what you need to make the correct diagnosis comes from the patient’s story and physical exam. X-rays and tests only provide some of the details, not all of them.

3. What do you see as the most exciting new development for your profession?

The increase in same-day joint replacement surgery is very exciting. The techniques in pain control and less-invasive surgery and anesthesia have allowed patients to sleep in the comfort of their own bed at home after surgery and to be up walking confidently quicker than ever.

4. What is your best advice for patients?

Exercise! You would be surprised by how many of our medical problems could be solved by consistent exercise. Research supports that exercise can improve pain in arthritic joints.

5. What is your philosophy when it comes to the care of your patients?

Always do the right thing, no matter what it takes. If you treat someone how you want to be treated, you’ll never
go wrong.
