Families Who Travel Together, Stay Together

Local Luxury Travel Planners Offer Expertise on Multigenerational Vacations

One of the biggest benefits of any vacation, whether it’s with your immediate or extended family, is the opportunity to get out of your normal routine, and as Amber Dixon and Jessica Crutchfield of Limitless Destinations explain, “Exploring the world together creates familial bonds and core memories.”

These trips, no matter your destination, allow you to get to know each other in new ways – especially children, who may see adults outside of their caregiving roles for the first time. “Multigenerational travel offers a rich experience when you explore new cultures and discover new passions with the people you love the most. Who knew that Nana was a great salsa dancer? Or that Uncle David could cook a mean ratatouille?” Dixon and Crutchfield elaborate.

Amazing benefits aside, planning these trips can be tricky. The more people you invite, the more needs and preferences there are to accommodate. You’ll need to be mindful of choosing accessible activities for the youngest and oldest members of the family as well as dietary requirements for everyone.

Jenny Park of Wild & Precious Travel suggests adventurous families try “bucket list” trips like luxury safaris that are “both educational and exhilarating, and logistics are handled by the local guides and lodge staff, which reduces the need for group decision-making.”

For families that are more interested in relaxing, Park suggests a luxury all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean or Riviera Maya – “these resorts offer a range of dining and activity options along with excellent kids clubs.”

Of course, it’s doable to plan your own trip, but you may find the whole experience more enjoyable and stress-free if you choose a professional to help make all your vacation dreams come true.

Tried-and-True Travel Tips

Limitless Destinations
Check your passport expiration date — many destinations require six months or longer validity after your travel dates. Renew or apply for a new passport as soon as possible to avoid last-minute travel stress.

Wild & Precious Travel
Always have your transportation from the airport to your hotel booked before your arrival! Particularly with international travel, some arrival areas can be quite chaotic, and some destinations do not allow Uber and have limited public transit.
