Why You Shouldn’t Feel Guilty About Treating Yourself Sometimes

It’s easy to think of treating yourself on occasion, a part of self-care, as something ‘bad’ that you need to feel ashamed about and keep secret. You don’t want other people to know that you are taking time for yourself or that you are putting your own needs – perhaps even your own wants – above theirs.

But why do we feel so guilty about enjoying ourselves and doing something just for us? Everyone needs some time to themselves once in a while, and it isn’t something anyone should feel guilty about. In fact, it’s a positive thing for you and those around you. Read on to find out why you shouldn’t feel guilty about treating yourself sometimes.

It’s a Way to De-Stress

Whether you choose to see a movie by yourself, have a spa day, enjoy some CBD cookies from sugarandkush.com, or go for a long walk through the woods, as long as whatever you do is allowing you to relax and de-stress, it’s a good thing.

A little stress is fine in life; in fact, it might even be beneficial because it makes us alert and productive. Too much stress, however, is definitely a negative thing. It raises blood pressure and heart rate, and it causes tense muscles, migraines, and even heart conditions. Plus, it can lead to depression and anxiety, among other mental health concerns.

When you take some time for yourself and treat yourself by doing something you enjoy, you will feel a lot less stressed. Problems that were plaguing you will seem much smaller and much easier to deal with, and your relationships with work colleagues, clients, and, of course, your family and friends will improve.

You’ll Sleep Better

Have you ever laid awake at night, tossing and turning, unable to sleep because you wish you had done this, that, or the other? This has happened to almost everyone, and it’s a terrible experience; it serves no purpose, only leading to exhaustion and a short temper the next day. Your productivity will be lower, too.

If you treat yourself once in a while, these sleepless nights will be less common. That’s because you’ll have more moments of saying ‘yes’ to things that make you happy to think about, rather than those moments when you said ‘no’ because you were worried about the guilt that you would feel or what someone would think of you. The more positive your thoughts, the easier you will sleep.

It Will Change Your Attitude

Some days are good and some days are bad, right? Well, perhaps not. Perhaps, no matter what is happening – at least in most situations – a bad day can quickly become a good one when you adjust your attitude. Having a more positive attitude means you can see the good in any set of circumstances, and in turn, that means you’ll be more attuned to positive things. When this happens, you’ll have many more good days than bad ones.

It’s far easier to see negative things than positive ones, but if you treat yourself once in a while, you’ll feel happier in general – as we’ve said, it will improve your mental health. This will ensure you see more positive than negative in your life overall.
