How to Deal With Fear and Anxiety

There is no measure to the physical and emotional effects that fear and anxiety have on your body. The detrimental impact of fear can slowly waste your spirit and resolve, resulting in unhealthy living. Some people will resort to hiding or masking their pain through using drugs or alcohol. Some may even fall into depression, which can cause emotional and physical detachment from society. By identifying and monitoring your fears, you can help keep them under control. 

Identifying Your Fears

Many people who live in fear and anxiety have frequent panic attacks. They could also be living in denial, thus causing them more harm. You need to be more aware of your physical and emotional health to correctly identify what makes you anxious. Look out for the following signs in your body and behavior to help you determine your phobias: 

– Sweating 
– If your heart beats faster than usual on certain occasions
– When you cannot focus or concentrate on your regular tasks
– Tense or weak muscles
– Behavioral changes

If you experience some or all of these symptoms when tackling your daily tasks, you need to take a step back and evaluate the exact cause of your anxiety. You can also ask your support system to help you identify what may be affecting you. Your past phobic behaviors can also help you narrow down your fears. 

Identify the root cause of your fear, whether it is childhood or past events, and seek a remedy. For example, you will find that people who are fearful of walking in the dark or isolated alleys have probably witnessed an unforgettable incident, or those who have been in toxic relationships will fear getting into the relationship scene again. 

Such people will be wary of being hurt and will always consider their safety by using protective gear like pepper sprays, guns, or penknives. Using pepper sprays correctly or learning how to use a gun is high on their priority lists, which is one of the red flags in behavioral changes.

 

Dealing With Your Fears

Once you have identified your fears, you need to take the necessary steps to overcome or live with your fears. The most significant step in dealing with your fears is to identify and accept them. It prepares you psychologically and mentally for how you will take on this challenge. 

Sometimes it may be challenging to identify your fears correctly, especially if you have been traumatized or hold on to your past. Visiting a psychologist will help you understand and be more knowledgeable of your problems. You may also need a prescription that will help you alleviate the pain and keep calm when handling your fears.  

The following steps can help you further deal with your fears:

Relax

Taking time off from your regular schedule to relax is vital in your recovery journey. It would help if you learned how to let go of things you cannot change or have no control of. Find a calm spot where you can relax and rejuvenate. 

Face Your Fears

Try to accept the daily challenges and the scary things in life. The big question you need to ask yourself is: “How beneficial has your fear been to your life?” The probable answer to this question will prompt you to take charge of your affairs. It would help if you resolved to work on eliminating your fears. 

Talk Therapy

The best way of starting your healing process is through talking. It would help if you got a supportive confidant or a psychologist who will walk the journey with you. Schedule several sessions according to your panic attacks to help you get over your fears. Do not underestimate the power of getting things off your chest. You will be surprised at how effective talking is in overcoming your fear. 

Support Groups

Joining support groups is essential since you will have accountability partners who will keep you in check throughout your journey. You also understand the different fears that people have, and it will be easier for you to accept and work on your fears.

Everyone has their fears. It would be best to learn how to deal with your worries and avoid having them affect your daily life. Work on being free from the shackles of events and memories. Have a positive and joyful perception of life. It will go a long way in maintaining your emotional and physical health.
