Q. My son was playing ball in the neighborhood and knocked his front tooth out. It is his second tooth, not a baby tooth. Is there any way we can save the tooth?
A. It is critical when a tooth is knocked out that it be replanted as quickly as possible. It is best to handle the tooth as little as possible and put it in a container of milk to take to the dentist. The sooner the tooth can be replanted, the better the chance of success. If it does successfully reattach, it will still need root canal therapy at a later date.
