Quick Crowns

Q My neighbor told me that she got a crown done all in one visit. Can you tell me more about how this is done?

We utilize CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Milling) technology to fabricate a crown. The brand we use is called CEREC. It has been around for almost 30 years. We have been utilizing the technology for 8 years and have found that patients love the convenience. No more impressions! We use a camera, which is about the size of an electric toothbrush, to scan the teeth. The crown is designed, milled, and then polished or glazed in an oven (depending on material). The procedure takes about 1.5 hours to complete and you walk out with your crown bonded in place, ready to go. We are able to use the technology for crowns, veneers, and even some bridges. The restorations are all porcelain, so they are very durable and have a great aesthetic. Time is valuable these days and this technology allows patients to get the care they need, in as little time as possible.
