Whitney Ward

Whitney Ward has spent her life cheering on her favorite teams. Now in her fourth year as a Tennessee Titans cheerleader, she’s found the balance between maintaining a healthy life for herself and inspiring others to do the same.

Q: What’s your favorite food to make at home?

A: I make Mexican salad with lettuce, chicken, black beans, veggies, guacamole, and salsa. It’s easy, healthy, and so delicious. The best food tip I can give you is to shop the perimeter of the grocery store. The fresh products found there are the only items your body needs!

Q: What types of training do you do as a Titans Cheerleader, and how can other women incorporate that into their routine?

A: We do a lot of cardio: running and dancing. I firmly believe that you have to enjoy your workout, so I recommend Zumba for all women. I take a Zumba class taught by one of my teammates, and I leave soaking with sweat every time. You can push yourself to the max while still having fun. Plus, dancing works muscles you don’t even know you have.

Q: Do you have any tips for getting motivated on days when you have zero energy or drive to work out?

A: I have those days more often than not. It’s rough to balance fitness with a busy schedule, but I have my girls to hold me accountable. It’s much easier when you have people around you to keep you motivated. I suggest taking a group class or making your hubby get in shape with you. Anything helps!

Q: What advice do you have for women who are hoping to become more active and healthy?

A: Being fit and healthy is a way of life. Start small and work your way up. When I first started, I cut out all fast food. Once I had that down, I cut out sodas. Now, my diet consists of clean eating – fruits, veggies, and organic meats. I also suggest investing in a Fitbit or another device that tracks your steps and calorie intake and keeps you accountable. You can set daily goals, and before you know it you’ll be on top of your fitness game.

Q: As a Titans cheerleader, you must really be involved with your community. What are some of your favorite nonprofits/charities?

A: I’m a board member at Rocketown, which is a local nonprofit in Nashville benefiting kids and teens. Rocketown is a skate park that has three different venues, after school programs, and summer camps. It’s a Christian-based nonprofit that was started by Christian recording artist Michael W. Smith.
