8 Skincare Tips for Anti-Aging

As you get older, your face and body will start to change. After the age of 40, your skin starts to become a lot less elastic, lines begin to deepen, and your skin tone can start to appear duller. Aging is a natural process, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look younger for a longer time. However, a lot of anti-aging methods can make you look overdone, which can end up looking worse than just letting yourself experience aging naturally. Try these tricks to look and feel more youthful without looking like you’re trying too hard to hold onto your youth. 

Get A Little Lift

There are a few cosmetic procedure options that will help to lift and brighten your face without changing your looks too drastically, so you can avoid the “frozen” look. You could choose to have cosmetic treatments like a chemical peel to brighten your skin tone if you think that it needs a boost. A procedure like an eye lift or a neck lift to lift those areas that are usually the first places to give away your age is also an option. With a skilled surgeon and good cosmetic work, these lifts are hard to spot, so nobody but you has to know you’ve had the work done at all. 

You can also get a lift without surgery. If your eyelids have a tired, droopy look, this can make you look much older. If your tired eyes are caused by a condition called acquired ptosis, try an acquired ptosis eyedrop to give your eyelids a lift without surgery.

Moisturize

As you get older, your skin will begin to appear duller, drier, and less elastic. To change this appearance, treat yourself to a rich, good-quality moisturizer. Apply a moisturizer every day all over your body as part of your skincare routine, ideally after a shower, when your skin is most able to absorb the moisture. Choose different moisturizers for your face and body, as they usually have different needs and sensitivities. 

Wear an SPF

You know you should be wearing an SPF every day to protect your skin from UV, but perhaps you’ve been skipping it unless the sun is hot, and thinking it won’t really matter. Did you know that UV rays can still damage your skin even on days that are overcast and cold? The sun ages your skin a lot and can even cause more serious problems such as skin cancer. If you drive a lot, you will end up with more sun damage on the side of your face that is nearest the window. 

To avoid discolored, unhealthy skin as you age, wear an SPF every day, even if the weather is gloomy. Any skin that is going to be exposed to the sun should be covered with an SPF, including your hands. Wear sunscreen or use a moisturizer with an added SPF to keep sun damage at bay. 

Sleep On Your Back

Dermatologists tell us that the position you sleep in could impact the way that you age. Sleeping on your side or on your front can cause deep furrows to form in your skin, adding to the appearance of lines and wrinkles that you might already have. To stop these furrows from forming, try to learn to sleep on your back instead of on your side or front. 

Get More Sleep

Sleep is one of the easiest and most effective things that you can do for better health and to protect your appearance. By getting enough sleep, you will have fewer dark circles forming around your eyes. Dark eye bags will soon make you look tired and much older. Going to bed just a little bit earlier at night can make a big difference, and has the extra bonus of leaving you with more energy, so you’ll feel more youthful as well as looking it. 

Don’t Rub Your Eyes

The skin around your eye area is very delicate and is easily damaged. When you rub your eyes too often, you can easily break some of the tiny capillaries that are in the eye area. This breakage of the capillaries will contribute to the darkening, dulling, and thickening of the eye area, which make you look much older than you really are. Try to avoid rubbing your eyes as much as you can. Instead, look after the area around your eyes with a rich eye cream to keep them looking good. If you wear makeup, be gentle when you take off your eye makeup. Pulling your eye around by scrubbing at your makeup with makeup remover will cause more damage.  

Wash The Day Off

Even if you don’t wear makeup, it’s still important to wash your face at the end of the day. As well as taking off your makeup, you should be washing your face at night to get rid of any dirt, grime, and anything else that might have built up on your skin during the day. 

Don’t worry about having to use expensive products, just find a cleanser that works well for your skin, and use it every day. Moisturize afterward to seal in moisture and keep up a healthy glow. 

Exfoliate Your Hands

Your hands are often the part of the body that is the first that starts to age. This is because they’re exposed to the weather a lot, and also get exposed to harsh things like cleaning products and hot water from the washing up. They also often have to work hard on hands-on things like gardening or cleaning. All this work can lead to early signs of aging, such as age spots, skin discoloration, dryness, lines, and dull skin. 

To keep your hands looking young, exfoliate them to slough away old, dull skin. You can purchase a scrub, or make your own using lemon juice and sugar. Mix these ingredients together into a paste, then rub it into your hands to gently exfoliate them.
